Create an Application in SCCM 2012


There are many ways to create an application in SCCM, i.e. App-V, MSI or script based. The example below shows the method taken to add an MSI based installation for 7-Zip Manager x64.

In the Software Library right click in Applications and choose Create Application.

Choose Type – Windows Install (Native) and browse to the MSI install file.

Click ‘Yes’ to import the file.

Click Next.

Amend any Installation program switches where relevant and click Next.

Click Next.

Click Close to complete the process.

Right click the new application and choose Distribute Content.

Click Next.

Click Next.

Click Add>Distribution Point.

Choose the relevant DP and click Ok.

Click Close to complete the process.

Application15

The application will be pushed to the Distribution Point.

The app is now ready to be used in a Task Sequence or you can deploy it to a collection for installation to devices or users.
