The latest cumulative update for SCCM 2012 R2 has been released by Microsoft http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2994331/en-us
One of the surprise additions to the CU is the ability to configure some form of management point affinity to stop MP rotation. This involves creating a AllowedMPs registry value under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\CCM key. The FQDN of your preferred MP is entered in this key.
One thing to note is that if the MP is unavailable then the isn’t any fallback to another MP, so clients reporting to this MP will no longer receive policy until it is back on-line.
The MS disclaimer reads:
Note After this value is defined, there is no fallback or other method for clients to communicate with other MPs. This new entry is only intended for permanently located workstation and server clients and is not portable to devices such as mobile PCs or tablets.
One option to negate this is to take a look at the product LocationAware, which has been developed by SMSMarshall.com. This product allows you to configure fallback if a MP does turn unheathly.
So what are you waiting for – regain some control of your ConfigMgr environments!
