ConfigMgr Query Collection for Windows 10 Tech Preview Desktops

Microsoft surprised us all with the news of the release of the next OS Windows 10 earlier this week. So there we were waiting for Windows 9! The Tech Preview is available to download now.

Whilst this release is not officially supported in SCCM 2012, as yet, it is possible to build a Windows 10 device via OSD. Check out Niall Brady’s excellent blog article on how to achieve this.

So you’ve installed the O/S and the ConfigMgr client is installed on the device. Time to play!

The following query can be used to create a collection for Windows 10 Tech Preview desktop devices.

select * from SMS_R_System inner join SMS_G_System_OPERATING_SYSTEM on SMS_G_System_OPERATING_SYSTEM.ResourceId = SMS_R_System.ResourceId where SMS_G_System_OPERATING_SYSTEM.Version = “6.4.9841”

  1. how about an update for the 1511 version of windows 10 that will work to separate any windows 10 boxes that are on the fast ring from the release preview ring. I tried changing the version to 1511 but it says the query is not valid.
