Microsoft has provided the following Technet article which will assist users attempting to upgrade to R2 of SCCM 2012.

The main thing to note is that you have to be running SP1 to be able to do the upgrade.
Enjoy!
Hi…
I am in the process of planning my first upgrade from SCCM 2012 SP1, to SCCM 2012 R2 CU3…
My question is – would it be any great disadvantage to leave SCCM 2012 R2 running on Windows Server 2008 R2 with 16Gb RAM.
Is it necessary to have it running on Server 2012 R2, or is performance not that much hindered either way?
Currently, I’m virtualizing our Server 2008 R2 SCCM box for experimentation.
Any thoughts you can offer would be appreciated.
Best regards,
Ambrish

Its not a requirement to move to 2k8. Not a performance issue. Cheers Paul
